Fine Art in Detail

The Old Mabry Mill – This watermill is located at milepost 176.2 off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd County, Virginia.  Mabry Mill was constructed in 1903 and was first a blacksmith and wheelwright shop, then became a sawmill. By 1905 it was in operation as a gristmill.  By 1910 the front part of the mill was completed and included a lathe for turning out wheel hubs, and also used as a tongue and groove lathe, as well as a planer and a jig-saw.  The ducks splashing around making standing and secondary waves are alway a pleasantry.

The artist created this art piece because of it character, historicity, and nostalgic fervor. With close examination one can see the "beauty in detail" of all the facial integration within the image; undoubtedly it shall reveal the obscured elements that requires an illustionistic eye that can actually see hidden images. Helpful hint, look carefully at the foliage and make the same connection in the water; a very fine conversation piece indeed because on the actual print the grayscale tones are much broader especially with the darker tones; the contrast of the actual print appears much richer than seen online, the resolution has been reduced for security purposes.
